Dissertation Degree Name Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Committee Member Mark J. Hofer Lindy Johnson Abstract The purpose of this multiple case study was to learn about how secondary English language arts (ELA) teachers help students to make meaning with multimedia. The study focused on how and why teachers plan and implement meaning-making learning experiences. The cases represent the experiences and perspectives of five ELA teachers who use digital and non-digital multimedia texts to help their students develop skills in meaning making. The results of this study define a set of principles that the teachers use to guide planning and implementation processes that focus on authentic, student-centered learning. The teachers value learning that has relevance to the students’ interests, goals, and lived experiences outside of the classroom. Adaptable planning, a focus on the needs of students, mitigating barriers through accessing outside resources, and setting learning goals that go beyond content-area standards characterize the teachers’ approaches to helping students make meaning. Multimedia texts were an embedded and pervasive aspect of students’ learning experiences.

While there are hundreds of portable Bluetooth speakers on the market, none of them were developed with musicians in mind – until now. Meet iLoud – the first portable speaker for musicians. We’ve created a portable Bluetooth speaker that combines superior power with spectacular audio resolution and amazing bass response. And IK Multimedia's with over 16 years of pro-audio engineering expertise — plus our position as the leading developer of mobile music-creation apps and accessories — we know what we’re doing. For the first time ever there's now a portable Bluetooth speaker that offers you the full power, clear sound, deep bass and stereo image of your studio monitors. No matter whether you're mixing your next masterpiece, practicing on the go or just listening at home, iLoud provides an unparalleled high-quality music experience. Big sound, small footprint As its name implies, iLoud is much louder than your average portable Bluetooth speaker. With a full 40 Watts of sonic power, iLoud sounds 2-3 times louder than comparable-sized speakers. It provides a richer, more powerful sound for any type of music style from rock to hip-hop to electronic music and beyond. It allows you to reproduce your music – in every possible mobile situation – as accurately as you would in the comfort of your studio. Years of pro-audio experience and innovative engineering solutions have contributed to our ability to produce a speaker this powerful in such a small enclosure. The sound quality and fidelity of iLoud will absolutely blow you away. Loud and clear Though the first thing you'll notice about iLoud is its namesake volume, the second thing you'll notice is how clear it sounds. Its high-fidelity studio-style sound is far beyond what you can get from conventional portable Bluetooth speakers. Thanks to its time-aligned 2-way system, precision custom neodymium loudspeakers, tuned bass-reflex, non-resonant enclosure and DSP processing, iLoud offers an ultra-accurate frequency response, exceptional bass response and stereo imaging that cannot be found in any other portable Bluetooth speaker. With iLoud you can be confident that any type of music will be reproduced with the accuracy normally found only on high-grade studio monitors. Even highly demanding sound textures like you find in classical, jazz and acoustic music will come to life with a precision and musicality that you've never heard before from a speaker of this size. Plug and play Here’s where it gets interesting. Grab your guitar and plug it into iLoud, plug in your mobile device, launch your favorite mobile app like AmpliTube or VocaLive and start jamming and recording. iLoud features a built-in iRig circuit for directly connecting a guitar or a dynamic microphone which lets you take advantage of the real time sound processing of your favorite mobile apps.

There are many that say that HTML5 is far better than Adobe Flash and here we will explore these reasons in order to understand the benefits and to establish which one comes really has the advantage. To start, let us first understand what HTML5 and Flash are. HTML5 and Adobe Flash are both technologies that people use in order to create effective content on the internet. Both these popular technologies have their advantages and disadvantages and by exploring their features we can establish the benefits of HTML5 over Flash. HTML5 HTML5 stands for Hyper Text Markup Language and we use this technology in order to develop websites. HTML has been around for over 20 years and with HTML codes, we can decide what a user will see when they enter a website, a blog or any other online links. With HTML, we are also able to embed animations, video clips and other multimedia tools with a text file. HTML5 also support multimedia content and provides features for allowing the scriptable rendering of 2D shapes. One of the key advantages is that since HTML5 is capable of rendering multimedia content without the necessity of installing a plugin or a player application, this technology aims at replacing other rich internet application (RIA) platforms, such as Adobe Flash. HTML5 is capable of running on any computer as well as on mobile devices such as iPhones, Android devices, iPad, tablets and smartphones, some of which cannot run Flash. It also excels when it comes to excellent performance on some platforms such as Linux and Mac OS X. Adobe Flash Adobe Flash is a rich internet application (RIA) tool as well as a multimedia platform. It is used to add animation and interactivity to games, advertisements and different types of web pages. One of the key benefits of Flash is that it provides an excellent graphical experience and since it uses competent algorithms to render graphical content, the scenes rendered with Flash run with a smoother finish. Flash also offers the ability to provide built-in visual effects which provide developers and graphic artists with the freedom of creative expression. Another advantage is that Adobe Flash can make specifications in sub-pixel increments for measurements and this ability results in a crisper and clearer presentation of Flash applications. HTML5 vs. Adobe Flash Here we will explore how HTML5 exceeds Flash. HTML5 has been developed by many developers and it is more upgraded and unique than Flash which is owned by Adobe. Flash also runs very slowly on some platforms such as Linux and Mac OS X since it does not have access to Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) processing. What this means is that the graphics processing is performed on the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and this causes the application to slow down immensely. Adobe Flash is also not supported by iOS and so a Flash file cannot run on an iOS device such as iPad and iPhone. One of the other key drawbacks of Flash is that in order to play a SWF file, you will need to install Adobe Flash and so you need to ensure that the device and the operating system are compatible with Flash. When it comes to running on Linux and Mac OS X, HTML5 excels and it has been shown that HTML5 content outshines Flash by running 58% faster than Flash apps. It has also been shown that Flash is not great for mobile devices and laptops whereas HTML5 takes the lead in these areas. Adobe Flash also consumes more power and is not compatible with a touch screen. Because of this, Flash causes a device to heat up. HTML5 on the other hand is compatible with touch screens and it does not have any issues with any device. HTML5 is becoming increasingly popular with companies such as emaze and Wix (who have previously featured Flash and have made the change to HTML5) providing easy to use, interactive platforms to create presentations and websites that are beautifully designed with minimum work on the users’ end.

Use layers and symbols to organize and reuse Flash graphics, and create and edit symbol instances to produce complex artwork. Use frames, keyframes, and the Flash timeline to control when graphics appear on the stage. Apply motion tweens to animate changes in the appearance and location of objects and create animations with text, 3D space, or using nested animation, shape tweens, and masks. Create buttons that display video and audio feedback using the four button states. Apply basic video edits in Adobe Media Encoder and output to Flash FLV and F4V formats. Embed, load, and skin Flash video and control playback with ActionScript. Use modularity, including loading of external files, to create flexible, editable complex Flash movies. Use hyperlinking to connect Flash to external Web sites and publish your Flash projects for the Web. Write and troubleshoot basic ActionScript 3.0 syntax. Assign basic visual properties to objects and dynamically control objects on the Stage. Use event listeners and MouseEvents to offer user interactivity and control. Track user mouse motion and location and use multiple timelines for animated responses to user events. Create basic drag and drop functionality with appropriate parameters and constraints. Set up and use variables to store and process information and use operators, expressions, and conditional statements to control information flow. Create and control Dynamic text boxes to display information to the user, and create and control Input text boxes to accept information from the user. Use coordinates and the Display List to manage objects on the Stage and draw graphics to the Stage dynamically based on user input. Use Flash drawing tools, onion skinning, symbols, and layers to design a character and prepare it for animation. Create a series of communicative facial expressions and use symbols...

Multimedia Audio controller Windows 8

Operating System Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional 5.0.2195 (Win2000 Retail) Date 2007-10-19 Time 09:24 --------[ Summary ] ...

Windows 8.1 isn't playing back audio on my 13" mid-2012 Macbook Pro. I only have a speaker with an x on my notifications bar. When I click on it, I get the usual "detecting problems" garbage. Unfortunately, every "solution" I've found seems to work for everyone else, but not for me. Device Manager Windows shows a High Definition Audio Controller listed under System. Its properties state that it has a Code 10 - "This device cannot start", along with "The requested operation was unsuccessful." This is the only notion of an audio device listed in Device Manager. Most solutions I've found say drivers need to be reinstalled (downloaded from the internet or simpliy re-run from the Bootcamp support drivers) and I've currently tried the following: Bootcamp setup.exe (No errors are reported, 5.0.5033 "installs" a variety of sound drivers) Cirrus Audio (Both CirrusAudiox64.exe and a manual .inf installation) Realtek (I've tried nearly every link I've found) Intel Graphics 4000 (apparently it does audio too) Every executable runs and reports success, however, I don't see any sign of a change apart from the Realtek driver copying files somewhere in Program Files, and the Intel driver blanking the screen a few times. Cirrus Audio I've tried manually installing the Cirrus Audio driver by performing the following: Select High Definition Audio Controller from Device Manager Click on Driver -> Update Driver Select "Browse my computer for driver " Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers" Click "Have Disk..." and navigate to the .inf file At this point windows complains that the driver does not support Windows x64, despite having "x64" written all over it. "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems." If I skip #'s 4 and 5, and browse directly for the driver files, Windows reports that the Driver software is already up to date. "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date." This makes me believe that Windows 8.1 might have an issue with certain drivers, deeming them unusable in some way. It's possible that windows is denying the .exe installers' drivers, Realtek, and Cirrus behind the scenes, without letting them install anything. Maybe they report success and silently fail? Setup It's worth mentioning that my Bootcamp setup isn't typical. I've partitioned the hard drive and installed windows manually, alongside Arch Linux. (I've triple booted this thing, and windows audio is the final hurdle.) I'm also using the refind efi bootloader to boot the system.

Ever since its launch at the beginning of December last year, the Western Digital WDTV has been our favourite way to quickly and easily playback multimedia files on your TV - just plug in a USB storage device and away you go. Then, more recently, we were impressed by the Popcorn Hour A110 that added network streaming capabilities as well as local storage potential by way of an internal hard drive bay. At nearly double the price of the WDTV, you paid a high price for that extra functionality though. So, today we're looking at a product that takes the basic USB playback features of the WDTV and adds in network support but at a very modest cost increase. First impressions of the Asus O!Play HDP-R1 are somewhat underwhelming. The box itself looks alright from a distance but it's clearly been made to a very tight budget with basic plastic panels used throughout. We're also concerned by the two blue status LEDs on the front. They're very bright even when viewed from an angle and face-on they're positively dazzling. Added to this, the remote looks distinctly cheap and toy-like, with its overly curved profile and rubber buttons. On a more positive note, the unit feels quite sturdy and, once hidden away amongst all your other AV gear, its looks are hardly going to be of great concern. Unlike devices such as the Popcorn Hour A110 and A.C. Ryan Playon! DVR TV, the HDP-R1 doesn't have internal storage. Instead you playback your media either from a USB stick or over the network connection. As such, setup can be as simple as plugging in a TV connection, the power cable, and a USB stick. There are two USB ports on the left side but one of them doubles as an eSATA port so there are plenty of storage connection options. If you want to connect to a network, there's an Ethernet port round the back but sadly no built-in Wi-Fi. Also on the back are sockets for stereo analogue audio, composite video, optical digital audio, HDMI, and of course power. The lack of component video output may be of concern to those with older TVs but we can forgive Asus for this as HDMI is just so ubiquitous nowadays. Setup is as simple as it gets. You just connect your choice of video and audio connection to your TV, plug in the power adapter, and press the power button on your remote and away you go. You'll be greeted by a basic menu system that just manages to stay the right side of the ugly line. It's clear and functional but a rival to Apple TV, it certainly isn't. From here you can either plug in a USB/eSATA device or connect the HDP-R1 to your home network. By default the network interface uses DHCP to have an IP address automatically assigned but you can set up a manual IP address if you like. Once added to the network, you'll be able to see any standard windows workgroups and any attached devices and their shared folders. These you can then browse for your multimedia files.
